The course addresses the role of women in French literary and cultural history. The presentation of the chosen topics departs from literary texts. The topics are as follows: some crucial female authors in the history of French literature (Marie de France, Mme de Lafayette, Mme de Sévigné, Mme de Staël, G. Sand, M . Duras, M. Yourcenar, etc..); women writers as the voice of the condition féminine; women as instigators of literary and cultural life; women as literary audience.
