The course acquaints students with the specific and the most important authors of Portuguese poetry from their beginnings to the present, with emphasis on the Portuguese medieval poetry and artistic patterns of the 19th and early 20th century and the theoretical fundamentals of poetic language. Subjects include a detailed analysis of individual works.

Portuguese poetry:
- characteristics of Portuguese medieval poetry
- Portuguese Renaissance and Luis de Camoes
- classicism and Arciadic poetry
- Romanticism: Characteristics, generation 70 '(Antero de Quental and contemporaries)
- 20th century:
- modernism and its relationship to poetry tendencies in European poetry;
- the main representatives of the magazine Orpheu;
- Fernando Pessoa in the context of the Portuguese and European Literature of the20th century.
- Fernado Pessoa and poetic heteronyms
